Selling and marketing to the folks who work in the construction industry requires a straight talking approach. A phony delivery can turn off a gathering of builders real quick. On the other hand, this industry is anything but stuffy, and the attendees of any homebuilder's convention definitely welcome a good joke and a lively presention; they've got a lot to do seeing the show and respond well to someone who has a good time delivering a message.
This presentation, (produced by HRD out of Gloucester, MA), ran twice an hour for four days and was loaded with hands on demos. Roofing materials, fiberglass insulation and a full size sound-proof booth as well as blasts of CO2 were part of every show. That's not to mention the chocolate chip cookies that Jerry put in the oven as the show started and served up to the crowd at the end, baking an insulated popsicle at the same time to show off the "power of pink" fiberglass...
Owens Corning as well as HRD were very pleased; the presentation
consistently drew great crowds even at low traffic hours. It even caught
the lens of a passing camera crew from HGTV, and excerpts of this presentation
were aired on national cable TV...
